Lucian Poe (b. 1999) is an emerging contemporary American painter based in Los Angeles whose work explores the intersection of emotional weather, inherited landscape, and atmospheric realism. Formally trained through a formative journey across the rural Midwest, Poe transforms environmental observation into rich, psychologically charged visual terrain.
Influenced by the structural weight of Regionalist traditions and defined by his own concept of "psychological regionalism," Poe employs a signature technique using water-mixable oils, slow-drying mediums, and meticulous multi-layer glazing. By layering thin veils of paint, he builds luminous surfaces where pigment resembles suspended weather, creating works that bridge emotional memory and environmental tension.
Central to Poe's practice—highlighted in breakthrough series like Bruised Light—is an examination of "polluted illumination" and atmospheric fault lines. Through evocative titles like Inheritance Fog, Farmland Ghosts, and American Wasteland, his canvases capture the fragility, distortion, and quiet resilience of the modern American landscape.
